Tall and narrow, he has the quality of something seen briefly at the edge of the treeline and then gone. Named Wisp for his long, thin form. Carved from reclaimed cottonwood bark collected from a fallen tree on the shores of Grapevine Lake, the slender piece of bark shaped his silhouette as much as the chisel did. A dry-brush of white pigment gives him the pale, fleeting quality of a will-o-the-wisp in low light.

About the Maker
I am trained in traditional carving techniques at one of Europe's most prestigious woodcarving schools in the Austrian Alps. My work draws from centuries of methods used in European churches and royal residences. I create from that lineage in my studio in Grapevine, Texas.
