The Persona His name is ancient Latin for "Forest/Woodland," and he wears the title well. "Saltus" is a study in elemental endurance. With a heavy, brooding brow and a beard that mimics the twisting roots of an old oak, he feels less like a carving and more like a manifestation of the deep woods itself. A stoic, powerful presence for any collection.

The Medium Carved from a massive piece of reclaimed Cottonwood Bark found on the shores of Grapevine Lake. The deep ridges of this specific bark allowed for a high-relief carving that emphasizes shadow and depth.

  • Artist's Note: I finished this piece with a "dry brush" technique using a touch of white pigment. This catches the high points of the texture, giving the wood a weathered, almost petrified appearance—like timber that has survived a century of winters.
