The Persona "The Shepherd" is a study in ancient stewardship. With deep, hollowed eyes and a heavy, elemental brow, he seems to carry the long history of the forest. This piece captures the wilder, uncanny side of the woods—reminiscent of the Ents of legend or the darker corners of a Grimm fairy tale.
The Medium Carved from thick Cottonwood Bark reclaimed from the shores of Grapevine Lake, Texas. The natural ridges of the wood dictate the chaotic flow of the hair and beard, making him feel as if he is still part of the tree.
- Artist's Note: I utilized a dry-brush technique with a touch of white pigment on the high points. This highlights the "ghostly" texture of the bark and adds depth to his weathered expression.
