The natural texture of the cottonwood becomes his hair, his beard, the lines of a face that feels older than the tree it came from. A dry-brush of white pigment draws out the ridges, giving him the misty quality of something glimpsed at the edge of the woods. Sustainably carved from bark collected from a fallen tree on the shores of Grapevine Lake, Texas.

About the Maker
I am trained in traditional carving techniques at one of Europe's most prestigious woodcarving schools in the Austrian Alps. My work draws from centuries of methods used in European churches and royal residences. I create from that lineage in my studio in Grapevine, Texas.
