Two faces, one piece of bark. These two emerged from the same slab of reclaimed cottonwood, collected from a fallen tree on the shores of Grapevine Lake, as if they had always been there together. Rustic and elemental, carved to let the bark's natural texture shape their features. A dry-brush of white pigment brings out their beards and the ridges between them. They are brothers from ancient ages.

About the Maker
I am trained in traditional carving techniques at one of Europe's most prestigious woodcarving schools in the Austrian Alps. My work draws from centuries of methods used in European churches and royal residences. I create from that lineage in my studio in Grapevine, Texas.
