The Story

The Smiling Blond Moon was carved to embody a relaxed warmth with a slight mischievousness. It almost seems to glow! Reclaimed from a Mid-Century home, the old-growth cedar wood was carefully carved to display its exquisite beauty. This piece has various natural checking and other variations in the wood that add to its authenticity and speak to its source of historic cedar.

The Craft

• 𝗦𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹: The Smiling Blonde Moon is a unique sculpture directly hand carved (no molds, no automation). The item shown in the images is the one you will receive.

• 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹: Reclaimed, old-growth Cedar salvaged from an old home, anchored to a solid cherry base via a minimalist black steel rod.

• 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵: Carefully finished to highlight the rich, warm tones of the aged cedar and the natural beauty of the lustrous cherry slab.

• 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A standalone sculptural centerpiece designed to bring a touch of traditional woodcraft and quiet folklore to your mantle, desk, or nursery.

• 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Approx. 18" (H) including the stand. The moon itself is approx. 11" in (measured from the back to the extended bottom tip).

About the Maker

I'm trained in traditional carving techniques at one of Europe's most prestigious woodcarving schools in the Austrian Alps. My work draws from centuries of methods used in European churches and royal residences. I create from that lineage in my studio in Grapevine, Texas.
