The Story

Rooted in European Folklore, this carved birdhouse draws from ancient tales that personified nature: the Green Man, Old Man Winter, the West Wind.

With a knowing smile, the carved lips part to allow entrance and sanctuary for the forest birds. Hang this in your garden and you’re bringing old world magic to your land. Both the wildness of the forest, and a quiet offer of sanctuary.

The Craft

• Sculptural Detail: Each face is hand-carved directly into the wood (no molds, no automation). This means no two Sages are exactly alike — yours will have its own unique expression and personality.
• Material: Solid, rot-resistant Cedar.
• Finish: Sealed for outdoor endurance, designed to silver beautifully with age, gaining a natural patina that blends into the landscape.
• Function: A fully functional home for small songbirds including Bluebirds, Wrens, Chickadees, and Finches.
• Dimensions: Approx. 10.5" (H) x 8" (W) x 8.5" (D). The mouth serves as a standard 1.5" entrance. Features proper ventilation and a discreetly removable roof panel for easy seasonal cleaning.

One of a Kind

This is not a mass-produced item. Every Old Sage is carved by hand from a single piece of cedar — when a piece sells, it’s gone. A new one will be carved, but it will carry its own grain, expression, and character. You are buying a unique carving.

About the Maker

I’m trained in traditional carving techniques at one of Europe’s most prestigious woodcarving schools in the Austrian Alps. My work draws from centuries of methods used in European churches and royal residences. I create from that lineage in my studio in Grapevine, Texas.
